Ford must fill gaps in vaccine certificate plan

QUEEN’S PARK — Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement in response to the Ford government announcement regarding vaccine certificates:

“We should already have vaccine certificates in Ontario. But despite the rise of the fourth wave and schools re-opening, Doug Ford is still playing politics with public health. Today’s announcement must fill in the gaps in the vaccine certificate program.
Vaccine certificates aren’t coming soon enough for the small businesses that have been struggling without provincial guidance to keep their customers and staff safe. Loads of non-essential businesses are being left off the vaccine passport list. There are gaps. For example, while vaccines are mandatory to eat in a restaurant, they aren’t required to serve or prepare food in one. This makes no sense.
Doug Ford needs to stop worrying about offending anti-vaxxers and focus on protecting Ontarians.”
