NDP MPP responds to COVID Recovery Hotel at capacity

TORONTO--MPP Rima Berns-McGown, the NDP's critic for Poverty and Homelessness, responded to reports that Toronto's COVID-19 Recovery Hotel for homeless people is at capacity:

"It is deeply concerning that Toronto's COVID recovery centre for people experiencing homelessness is overrun, meaning people sick and suffering from the virus are being turned away.

The Ford government failed to implement effective public health measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 and provide sufficient, safe housing options to people experiencing homelessness. Homeless people, shelter staff and residents are now at tremendous risk, and public health efforts to curb the spread of the virus are being undermined.

We’re calling on the Ford government to stop letting the virus spread in the name of saving a buck. Open more COVID recovery shelters now."
